One of my students reported that one of the cabinet designees (she thought
Energy) has blamed the Internet for a 10% increase in energy use. She
claims that's what was said--no qualifiers.

I saw an item on CNN's web site, claiming that in those areas of California
where there is a high concentration of ISP and other internet hardware, the
demand for electricity has grown at perhaps 7-10%, rather than the state
average of 2-3% (if I'm remembering the numbers correctly.
