Re: astronomy software

I have not used Digital Universe, but have tried many sky programs. I like
Starry Night for use inside and for showing things to students inside.
However, when I go out at night (with a laptop) and I want software to help
me see "what's up" and to identify things, etc., I prefer SkyMap. It is
also a bit less expensive.

Although SkyMap lacks some of the glitz of Starry Night, when I just want to
identify, find, plan for an outing, etc. I think I can navigate SkyMap
faster, and I like its display. I will admit that this might be because I
have owned SkyMap longer and I am more familiar with it.

Anyway, if you are looking for something to take outside with you, and that
is your primary interest, you might want to download the demo copy of SkyMap
and see what you think.
