Position for Senior Laboratory Technician



Senior Laboratory Technician -

The Pomona College Department of Physics and Astronomy is seeking a Senior
Laboratory Technician. The duties include
managing lecture-demonstration equipment and introductory laboratory
equipment, setting up lecture demonstrations and laboratory experiments for
introductory courses, assisting faculty with the design of new
demonstrations and experiments for introductory courses, and constructing
equipment for new demonstrations and experiments. The successful candidate
must be timely, detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to work without close
supervision, and capable of working with a diverse body of instructors. He
or she should be familiar with scientific laboratory equipment and
apparatus, scientific laboratory procedures and techniques, and health and
safety practices applicable in a physics classroom or laboratory, and be
able to follow complex instructions in the preparation and construction of
media and equipment setups. Good oral and written communications skills are
mandatory. The successful candidate must have reasonable familiarity with
PC and Macintosh computing environments, standard electronic measurement
equipment, and standard machine-shop procedures. Candidates should have at
least an associate degree (BA or BS preferred) or its equivalent from a
recognized college, with a major in physics or a closely related field.
Experience as a laboratory technician in a physical science laboratory may
be substituted for the preferred education on a year-for-year basis.

Pomona College is a small and highly selective private liberal arts college
with a total student body of about 1400. The department graduates about ten
majors each year, and consists of seven faculty and four full-time staff
including a professional machinist and an electronics technician.
