Re: The "typical" high school physics teacher

Regarding the uncertified physics teacher in Ohio.

Has anyone attempted to contact him or her, and draw them into the physics
teaching commmunity? To attract them to local area workshops?

What makes them so popular? The implication is that they are too easy.
Maybe they are actually good. What do they bring to the class? In my
district, if you can't teach content, the parents are on your case. They
want their little darlings to be competitive when they hit college classes.
No parental complaints may actually be a good thing.

Personally, I'm a little appalled that a fresh out of school teacher could
feel that she could walk in and take someone's job on a technicality.
Especially when she evidently had no trouble obtaining a position since
demand for physics teachers is so high. Why come down on someone who is
evidently at least competent, and possibly quite exceptional?
