Re: Brownian motion

Stinko made a cell with a bulb to vacuum in smoke particles and an incorporated
illuminator ~ 100 X microscope required.

The UCSC UD lab. still does "The Brownian Motion Experiment."

Stabilized LASER, multiplier phototube, pre-amp., and HP audio spectrum
analyzer. Students to find functional relationships of angle and particle size
(EM std. latex spheres) fit the Lorentzians, and compare to Einstein
relationship.

To demonstrate Brownian motion, I recall putting a small
amount of a red powder, (Carmine red??) into a drop of
water and watching the reaction of the particicles
when viewed with a microscope. Isa my memory correct on this??
Does anyone know a better way of demonstrating Brownian motion??
