AR coatings for glasses (was: UV protection...)

Unlike Michael's experience apparently, on my last set of glasses I
got AR coatings after not having had it before, and I found it to be
a huge blessing in one common arena of life: night-time driving. In
addition to the increased transmission, there are definitely less
halos around light sources. I suppose this is because of the
elimination of multiple reflections inside the lenses, which would
probably be exaggerated by the lack of planarity (both the curvature
and the non-smoothness) of the surfaces.

Make sure you get AR coatings on both the outside and inside surfaces
of your lenses if you go with this option! Carl
