Education Department Chair position available

CHAIR, DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

MICHIGAN TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY


Michigan Technological University invites applications for Chair of its
Department of Education, which supervises secondary education teaching
certification on campus and currently serves approximately 200 highly
qualified undergraduate and postgraduate students. These earn teaching
certification along with degrees in their major. This tenure-track position
will be filled at the Associate or Full Professor level. The new chair will
be expected to strengthen and expand a growing teaching certification
program working with the university's degree-granting departments. Salary
is negotiable and dependent on the successful candidate's qualifications.
The search committee will begin to review applications on February 1, 2001,
and continue to review them until the position is filled. Duties will begin
in the summer of 2001.

The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate, a record of
achievement commensurate with an appointment as an associate or full
professor, and a demonstrated commitment to academic excellence, cultural
diversity, and equal opportunity. He/she should also have demonstrated
managerial ability in higher education and success in securing resources
from external sources. Familiarity with accreditation requirements,
established national standards, and program review procedures is desirable,
as is experience in partnerships with secondary school teachers and
administrators. The candidate must be prepared to coordinate activities
with the disciplinary departments involved in teacher education programs.
Experience in science or mathematics education at the secondary level is
desirable.
