I have not kept up will all of the messages on this topic, so I hope what I
am about to say is not a repeat of an earlier message.
In the sixties or seventies I recall a plenery talk on the physics of
twisting dives, given at a winter APS/AAPT meeting (probably in Chicago).
The contents of the talk was published in Scientific American.
Unfortunately, I cannot recall the author, the issue, or the title. I do
recall that it was an informative and entertaining article.
