The sport setting will probably work for you if all you wish to do is lab
exercises. If you aren't sure, then contact the manufacturer and ask them
what the shutter speed is for their sport setting. It is a straight forward
calculation to see how far an object, in a particular experiment, will travel
in a shutter time. I have had no difficulty with various cameras and their
preset "sport" shutter speeds in a lab environment for simple introductory
video analysis exercises. These cameras are typically under $500.00. If you
are doing something more complicated, then you may need to get a more
expensive camera.
