Re: N1 special case of N2

John Denker said today, 'There are several elements of what we normally
consider "Newtonian mechanics" that are not captured by Newton's laws.'

You can read a long discussion of these elements in David Hestenes' paper
entitled "Modeling Games in the Newtonian World", Am. J. Phys. 60, 732-748
(1992).

Or you can download an insightful article called "Foundations of Mechanics"
from David's web page. This article was originally published as Chapter 9
in the first edition of his book, "New Foundations for Classical
Mechanics", 1986 (but he had to remove it from the second edition, due to
lack of space).

David is an excellent writer; his papers are a good read.
