on the TIP web page

Since it has been mentioned on both lists, I thought I'd fill you in on the
issue.

I sent a note to Greg Kearsley about his TIP web page pointing out that
while Bruner certainly deserved a spot in the list of "theories" he is not
the best representative of constructivism. The note included some
references. I have received the following response:

Thanks for your input on the topic -- constructivism is a broad concept that
means lots of different things to different people. Bruner is one of the best
known historical advocates of a constructivist position in education --
but I am
aware there are many more current/recent proponents. However, I didn't know
about von Glaserfeld...I'll add a mention of his work and perhaps some others
next time I revise the site.

Can't really ask for more!

"As a result of modern research in physics, the ambition and hope,
still cherished by most authorities of the last century, that physical
science could offer a photographic picture and true image of reality
had to be abandoned." --M. Jammer in Concepts of Force, 1957.

"If what we regard as real depends on our theory, how can we make
reality the basis of our philosophy? ...But we cannot distinguish
what is real about the universe without a theory...it makes no sense
to ask if it corresponds to reality, because we do not know what
reality is independent of a theory."--S. Hawking in Black Holes
and Baby Universes, 1993.
