I have been off-list for the past three weeks, so I apologize if
this topic has been discussed in my absence. However, I think
that this is important enough to take the risk,
I would urge all teachers and professors of physics to read the book
"The War Against Boys" by Christina Hoff Sommers before beginning the
Fall term. This is a well-documented work that describes why we have the
current 60/40 ratio of females to males in higher education. Sommers
takes to task those who make claims based on faulty or missing research and
who have shaped our current educational environment to the detriment of our
young boys. This work should be of particular interest to teachers of
science
who teach their students to accept the results of "studies" with caution.
This book might change your philosophy of teaching.
