Re: breaking sound barrier movie

An examination of photography of super and hypersonic flight shows that
indeed the angle, called mach angle does vary inversely as the cosine of the
mach number. The exhaust of an afterburner of the old j79 engine used in the
F4, at full power had 7 supersonic diamonds in it before the exhaust went
subsonic when on a test stand stationery and not installed in the airframe
and flying. Can anyone calculate the velocity of the exhaust relative to
stationery engine?

When the aircraft is fully supersonic, and no longer in the transonic range,
the shock wave becomes an after shock, no longer standing on the aircraft as
a cloud of vapor, visible to the pilot. At least that is what I observed,
when I flew as a nasal radiator years ago.
