I wonder if the "tail" is just light which essentially missed all the
electrons in a piece of transparent material, material which might be
upstream from the experiment. If a pulse is sent through glass,
supposedly there is always a bit of light which is not slowed down by the
refractive power of the medium. For such a "tail" to outpace the pulse by
60ft, wouldn't the optical path through the transparent medium need to be
lots longer than 60ft?
