Re: MARCH TPT, The Socratic Method

On Mon, 17 Apr 2000, Richard Hake wrote, in part:

The Socratic Method used so successfully by the above is NOT derived
from the FICTIONAL Socrates of Plato's imagination as depicted in
Meno (1,2), but rather from the REAL historical Socrates as
researched by the late great Gregory Vlastos (7-10).

Univ. Press, 1991), esp. Chap. 2, "Socrates contra Socrates in Plato."

OK, so I got ref. 8. I find that Vlastos' principal source for
"the real Socrates" is Plato. The only other near contemporary is
Xenophon, whom Vlastos dismisses as thoroughly dishonest.
Also, I can only keep the book for two weeks.
So, please help me out, somebody. Where is the part that says
that the account in Meno is fiction? I have been unable to find it.
