See "Fads and Fallacies in the Name of Science" by Martin Gardner.
He has a section on this.  He maintains that Adolph Hitler believed
in Hohlweltlehre, and that he actually ordered that surveillance be
conducted by using infrared cameras to look upward to see the ships
of the Allied fleet sailing on the ocean on the inside of the Earth.
