Re: PHYS-L in _The Physics Teacher_

I have been receiving a number of emails from readers of _The Physics Teacher_
who received the April edition with my article describing PHYS-L in it. Most
of these people are joining or re-joining PHYS-L. I expect we will pick
up over a dozen new subscribers in an unusually short period of time.

Dan:

No problem. Things change too much for it to be very stable. I'll check
the page and get back to you.

Dewey

I would appreciate a little extra patience from list members towards
these new subscribers. Things may be a little rockier than usual as they
get up to speed.

PHYS-L subscribers who do not receive _The Physics Teacher_ but want to
read the article about PHYS-L can download a copy from the phys-l
homepage http://purcell.phy.nau.edu/PHYS-L/ as a .pdf file. I'd like to
thank the TPT folk for allowing us to do this.

If you have problems or questions, please check the PHYS-L homepage or email
me and I'll do what I can to help.

Regards,

Dan M

PS -- one of my graduate students wrote a more general manuscript on
science education lists that was accepted by _The Science Teacher_ this
coming fall. It discusses biology, chemistry, earth science etc lists.

"As a result of modern research in physics, the ambition and hope,
still cherished by most authorities of the last century, that physical
science could offer a photographic picture and true image of reality
had to be abandoned." --M. Jammer in Concepts of Force, 1957.

"If what we regard as real depends on our theory, how can we make

what is real about the universe without a theory...it makes no sense
to ask if it corresponds to reality, because we do not know what
reality is independent of a theory."--S. Hawking in Black Holes
