RE: CUR Office Report

The Council on Undergraduate Research invites you to attend CUR 2000 --- the
CUR National Conference. It will be held June 22-24, 2000 at The College of
Wooster in Wooster, Ohio. The site is convenient to the Cleveland airport,
and shuttle transportation is available.

A draft of the full program is now available on the CUR website,
www.cur.org/conferences.html. In addition to the program, you will find the
abstracts for all oral presentations, a summary of activities, and
information on how to register for the meeting. You can register online at
www.cur.org/cur2kform2.asp, or by downloading our registration materials.
The early registration deadline is approaching so don't delay - register
before April 15th.

There will be two poster presentation sessions during CUR 2000: one focusing
on pedagogy and one on undergraduate research itself. For those wishing to
present a poster at either session please visit our website and fill out the
on-line abstract submission (www.cur.org/abstractsubmission.asp). The
deadline for abstract submission is April 10th for inclusion in the abstract
booklet. The late abstract submission deadline is May 15th. There will
also be a special symposium on Interdisciplinary Environmental Research with
Undergraduates, as well as sessions on Interdisciplinary research in other
fields. Other themes include facilities for undergraduate research,
collaborations, faculty development, dissemination of undergraduate
research, administrative issues, and assessment.

One day of the meeting focuses on funding opportunities and how to prepare a
winning grant proposal. Representatives of NSF, NIH, NASA,
USDA, DOE, and private funding sources will be present to talk about their
programs. Dr. John Hunt of NSF will present new information about revised
guidelines for NSF's Research at Undergraduate Institutions (RUI) program.

We look forward to seeing you at CUR 2000. Register before the deadline for
early registration passes (April 15th), and take advantage of the lower
registration fee. CUR members receive a substantial discount on
registration fees for this and other CUR meetings.
