Star Trek's first season was in 1966. I would speculate that Brother Nye was born about that time.
 
BTW, for everything you ever wanted to know about Gene Roddenberry and the history of Star Trek, read Star Trek Creator by David Alexander, an authorized biography.
 
And, of course, for everything you ever wanted to know about Star Trek science and technology, read The Physics of Star Trek by Lawrence Krauss. Two must reads for all Trekkies.
