Re: PSEUDO-SCIENCE ?

I'm curious how many of you have met somebody outside of a University
who wants to be called a "computer scientist". The people I meet have
titles like "Information Technology Professional" or "Applications
Programmer". I suspect that "scientist" equates to "low income" or
"nobody will hire me to write business applications" in their minds, so
they don't even want the title. Check out
http://www.uwinnipeg.ca/~asbc/ - we don't even have a a department of
"Computer Science" - we have a "Department of Business Computing and
Administrative Studies". This means that the Physics department teaches
its own Scientific Computing course, but thats not a bad thing IMO.

As for whether the title is valid for those who do want it... there are
computer scientists with every bit as much right to the title
"scientist" as most of us. They are the minority, but as I said above I
don't see a lot of the rest even wanting the title anyways.
