Advanced Lab Topics

Dear Colleagues:

My chairperson and I are trying to put together a syllabus for
a new class- PHY 430, Experimental Physics Laboratory. This is basically
the advanced lab class that we all had as undergrads. This is an attempt to
strengthen the offerings for our (new) physics major and minor program.

Question: What topics and experiments would consider essential in such a
course? I teach at a small (2000 students) liberal arts institution that
has an excellent chemistry program (they have an FTIR and are upgrading their
NMR- I'm sure we could have access to these items.) I have some ideas, but
I am not
an experimentalist- I'm certain some of you will be able to help steer me
down the best path.

Thanks in advance for your input!
