PROBLEM solved through Microsoft Newsgroup. In WORD
the trick is to select Tools, then Options, then under
VIEW tab,show, deselect Field codes. Don't know how it
ever got selected, but its back to normal now.
Incidently, I've also ordered the MathType. Thanks for
the help.
