Re: convert light into energy

Since no one has yet bothered to address the original experiment, you might
want to check out Scientific American, which gives a brief overview of the
topic.

http://www.sciam.com/explorations/122297teleport/index.html

Basically, the idea is to use some tricky quantum mechanics to transfer
polarization information about one photon to another photon far away, at
speeds greater than the speed of light. There is no photon actually moving
from one spot to the other, nor is energy transferred, but there is an
exact copy of the first photon's polarization applied to a second photon.
Thus one photon loses its polarization identity and a second simultaneously
gains that identy.

I'm no expert, but that seems to be the gist of it. And the experiment has
been successfully performed.
