I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but I think the answer must
be "no". They carefully measure the force vs. elongation (static)
and plot it to get a lovely straight line....

Motorcyclists are familiar with (helical) coil springs with varying
numbers of turns per unit axial length along the length of
the spring. Though the diameter of such springs is constant - the
effect is rather like a helical/spiral of the kind I assume you are
describing. The helical region with most turns per unit length like
the spiral region of largest diameter is 'softest' (lowest force per
extension). This ought not to give a straight line....
