Re: WAVES, VERY LONG

At 10:43 1/28/00 -0500, Ludwik quoted John D thus:
we have not only
a) transverse waves driven by tension, and
b) longitudinal waves driven by compression/extension,
but also
c) transverse waves driven by stiffness

There are waves of many kinds. One that was not discussed
is the travelling wave that is excited in a stiff material by
applying a torque pulse. If I recall, this is non-dispersive.
