Some people distinguish straight line from a curved line, like
an arc or a parabola. All are infinite sets of points but there
are clear differences between such lines. Personally I would
not mind your restrict definition of the word "line".

Perhaps new restrictive definitions of waves can be useful.
A wave is one of these a, b, c, d, ... Applying the same word,
"wave", to different phenomena is not a good thing, IMHO.
Stiffness wave and tension waves, identified by John, are
useful distinctions which help to avoid confusion.
