Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE)
Comprehensive
Program competition for Fiscal year 2000 is Back, and with more funding
than in the past. The 2000 competition holds great promise. The US
Department of Education is looking for good postsecondary education
reform
projects. The deadline to submit your preliminary application is
February
11, 2000.

The agenda for the Comprehensive Program is broad. The US Department of
Education is encouraging all ideas to improve access to and the quality
of
postsecondary education. The following topics are not meant to limit,
but
rather to stimulate ideas:

1. Access, retention, and completion
2. Improving campus climates for learning
3. Curricular and pedagogical reform
4. Controlling costs: making more productive use of resources to improve
teaching and learning
5. Faculty development
6. Improving K-12 teaching and schools
7. Dissemination of successful innovations.

Proposal are judge on quality. No agenda topic is automatically favored
over other in the selection process.

The competition supports innovative reform projects that hold promise as
models for the resolution of important problems in postsecondary
education.

Other Fiscal Year 2000 FIPSE Competitions

European Community/United States of America Joint Consortia for
Cooperation
in Higher Education and Vocational Education

Grants will be made jointly by FIPSE and the European Commission to
facilitate the formation of educational consortia of America and
European
institutions. The consortia will be organized to promote educational
collaboration and student exchange.

Application Deadline: March 17, 2000

Learning Anytime Anywhere Partnerships
Grants will be made to support partnerships among colleges and
universities, employers, technology companies, and other relevant
organizations to create postsecondary programs on a national or regional
scale that deliver distance education anytime and anywhere.

Application Deadline: March 3, 2000
