OK, I get the message! Some of those persons who
becam scientific pioneers did well with their formal
schooling and some did not. There may be several
reasons: (1) They may have nad no opportunity for
formal schooling and therefore educated themselves.
(2) Then may have been unable to learn in the class-
room setting and educated themselves. (3) They may
have hated the overwhelming "sameness" of science
classes in the university setting.
It may be another urban legend, but I have been told that
Faraday was largely innocent of formal education and
learned about electricity by hanging around the Royal
Society and setting up demonstrations for the scientific
elite of the day. WBN
