Re: Need Ideas

Our intro lab used to revolve around making two independent measurements of
a physical system, then determining by graphing what the functional relation
between them was.
Example experiments that we have used successfully:

Power law: horizontal transport of fluids through paper towel (t vs x)
mass of crumpled paper ball vs diameter (this one's a
fractal!)
diameter of Newton's Rings vs ring number

These and others available by looking at "lab manual" linked to my home
page. An older version of this manual, with even more experiments can be
found at

So, I am looking for simple experiments/projects that show linear,
quadratic,
exponential, power, or sinusoidal relationships, etc. I've listed some
topics below, and need more ideas. The course is not concentrating on any
one science area, so topics from biology, chemistry and other fields are
also
welcome. Ideas can include in-school experiments, out-of-school
experiments,
or data that is available from other sources such as the internet.
