Another book to add to your list is "Atmospheric Halos" by Walter Tape. It
is volume 64 of the Antarctic Research Series. Not only did Walter take
some very beautiful pictures, but he also collected the ice crystals that
were falling at the time of the display. He connects the shapes of the
crystals (including pyramidal shaped crystals) with many of the displays.
He also presents computer simulations of the different atmospheric effects
(similiar to Greenler's simulations and those generated by Les
Cowley's/Mike Schroeder's program at
http://www.lc.dial.pipex.com/halo/halosim.htm).
