I remember an article which mentions that this DOES occur. If a bright
pulse of light is sent through a translucent object, a tiny bit of light
travels straight through without interacting. The article speculated that
perhaps this could be used with human bodies to build an "x-ray machine"
based on visible light which would make flesh invisible but cast shadows
of opaque objects such as bones.
