This may be of interest to the list members. Hindus regard
that creation has taken place 1,972,949,100 years ago.

According to the Hindu concept of kalpas and yugas (time cycles)
creation took place when all the planets were in the first point
of Aries. The dissolution will come after the integral number of
years required for all of them to come again to the first point of
Aries. This is estimated to be 4,320,000,000 years. This is the
duration of daytime for the creator. The creator will sleep for
an equal duration of night (4,320,000,000 years) and when he wakes up
will start the new cycle of creation.

There is a very controversial book by a non-Western (India) researcher who
investigates these issues and finds that there is significant evidence for
mankind having been around for far longer than anyone can accept.

He also comes to the conclusion that the evidence is right before our
eyes, but because Disbelief is a factor, the evidence is swept under the
carpet and ignored. If individual scientists each maintain the conviction
that no ancient civilizations exist, and if each scientist discards any
inexplicable evidence encountered, then conceivably there could be large
amounts of evidence, but nobody ever connects it together in their minds.
