Re: cold fusion

Let's put that into correct perspective! With the experimental
conditions Jones set up he got many fusions for each muon; that is
why it is called muon *catalyzed* fusion. The problem was not a
small cross-section for the reaction; the problem was a short half
life for the muon, two microseconds, during which not enough
reactions could be catalyzed to reach practical break even.

To continue with this perspective, note that Steve had no notion of power
production before P&F. Afterward he did concern himself with the
possibility of a Prize, but by the time of the Los Alamos Conference, he
was essentially convinced it was not going to be possible and seemed to
give up the idea of great fame.

{Prior to P&F he was doing research on something esoteric about hot spots
in the ocean hence his fluid was a Mother Earth broth -- I think he called
it -- not deionized water.

Currently he is working on solar ovens for use in poverty areas -- so as to
mitigate the burning of wood for cooking.
