Re: strong theories, weak theories, not-even-wrong theories

John Denker Wrote:

What about theory 1b? In Fermi's immortal words, it is "not even wrong".
Indeed, theory 1b is *not* wrong. It's *true* that each person has a
weight-to-height ratio. But this is not physics. It's not science. It
has no predictive power.

I have no objection to your conclusions, John, but I think that the
"not even wrong" epithet is attributable to Pauli rather than Fermi.

BTW, I am gathering a list of frequently used acronyms from the
e-mail domain. I can usually figure out what new ones mean from the
context, but ISTM has so far escaped me. Can you enlighten?

While we're at the e-mail acronyms bit, I saw one some time back (I
forget where): LOL. Does anyone know what this one is (I know "lots
of love" and "little old lady," but neither of these fit the context
I saw it in)?

Let's face it. People use a Mac because they want to, Windows because they
