Yes.
The capacitors surely will not spontaneously connect themselves that
way.

Hmmm....I'm quite sure that Jerry and Jack don't mean to imply that
the work involved in moving two caps together is equivalent to the
electrical energy lost from the joined capacitors compared with their
energy sum prior to union.

This would, after all, be wrong! :-)
