We have all just been exposed to a worm, a virus-like program called
Happy99/SKA. It was sent to us by one of our colleagues, unintentionally
I'm sure. By now you all have been warned by other colleagues to delete
the offending message and should have done so.
I am writing you all to urge, to plead, to beg each of you to acquire
modern antivirus software; to install it and run it so it provides
protection 24/7; and to keep it up-to-date by using its online update
feature regularly, preferably once a week. This is not about protecting
yourself and your system; this is about protecting everyone else who
receives your messages and files. McAfee. Norton. Dr Solomon. F-Prot.
Buy it, use it.
I'll set myself up for Curmudgeon of the Week with this pronouncement:
With the increased frequency of virus and virus-like threats, the time has
come where operating an unprotected computer in a public forum is an
immoral act and is unacceptably disrespectful to the other members.
