Re: Wierd photo request, & tesla coiling!

I'm working with Ray Serway on the 5th edition of his calculus-based
book and I'm trying to find a photo. I'm sure you've seen old black &
white sci fi movies showing your typical mad scientist in your typical
mad scientist's lab with your typical Jacob's Ladder operating in the
background. (I'm actually interested in the Jacob's Ladder, but thought
the context would be interesting.) Does anyone have any ideas as to
where I might find a photo showing a scene like that? This has stumped
the photo researcher at Saunders.

Contact Harry Goldman, director of the TCBA (Tesla Coil Builders Assn.)
Harry constantly includes in the TCBA newsletter stills from old "mad sci"
movies with high-voltage electrical equipment of all kinds. I'm sure he'd
love to help you find the appropriate device. (Hey, why not include
Strickfadden's special effects devices from the original B&W Frankenstein
movie?!)

BTW, if anyone here is into building tesla coils, a new TC plan is
included in the TCBA newsletter every few issues. Many people in the past
have donated the few-hundred $$$ to buy the entire back-issues collection
of TCBA newsletter for their personal libraries. It's filled not only
with TC stuff, but articles on all sorts of hi-volt electrical devices,
and reprints of ancient electrical build-it articles. (yes, VDG-building
too.) See the link to the newsletter index below to search for particular
backissue articles.

Note that if you subscribe to TCBA and mention that you heard it from
Bill B., member 1266, I get a free issue added to my subscription. :)
