I am doing some research in physics teacher education in America
1880-1900 and its impact and relevance on the contemporary training
of physics teachers.

Today, physics teacher training consists of learning physics
followed by some general courses in "education" and methods of teaching
followed by some student teaching. Has it ever been different in the
past? Will it ever be different in the future?

they wish to retain their jobs)

Are you absolutely sure about the "learning physics" part of it?
Glenn

I am absolutely sure that pre-med dropout s who are now physics teacher
learn some physics as they prepare their daily lessons. About their
students ..... I am not so sure.
