Book bonanza!

Thanks to all who helped me reduce the size of my library by taking books
and journals off my hands, which I'll no longer need in retirement. But
the job is not done. I still have books remaining from my mis-spent life
as a book-aquirer. These include several categories in which no one
expressed special interest. Maybe there's no interest in these; we'll see.
If so, I'll give them to the local AAUW book sale this spring.

Frankly I don't want the nuisance of dealing in small shipments, so I'm
offering these in package lots. They will go to the first person who
e-mails me privately, willing to pay the amount indicated.

Private replies only. <<<<<<<<<

Requests will not be considered unless a complete postal address is
included, including street address (in case I ship UPS).

----------------------------------------------------

Lot No. 1. 34 books on music, sound and acoustics, along with some Bell
Labs and Dolby Labs reprints on these subjects (reprints not itemized
below). The books, some of which are "classics" were published between
the 50's and the present.

I'm offering this whole lot for $80, shipping and handling included, to
the first person who e-mails me indicating an overwhelming desire to own
these. Such a deal! Priced to MOVE! About $2.50 per book. Round out your
library on this subject. There's a lot of sound physics here.

Hunter, Joseph L. Acoustics. Prentice-Hall, 1957.

Benade, Arthur H. Horns Strings and Harmony. Science Study
Series, 1960. Anchor paperback.

Many of the above are older books, but most of this physics doesn't go out
of date.

--------------------------------------------------------

Lot No. 2. A special!

While the above books are at the undergraduate level, I have one other
which is definitely graduate-level, so I'm offering it separately, and
*not* including it in the package above. It is

Skudrzyk, Eugen. The Foundations Of Acoustics, Basic
Mathematics AND Basic Acoustics. Springer-Verlag, 1971.

This two-inch thick 790 page volume is the "Bible" of the physics of
sound, for serious workers. Intensely mathematical treatment. Not simply a
translation of the German edition, but an English rewriting of the
material, by the author. Incudes theory of wavefront reconstruction and
acoustic holography. With dust jacket and protective plastic cover.

Price: $25, includes shipping and handling.

--------------------------------------------------------

Lot No. 3. Basic library in solid state physics.

Seitz, Frederick. Modern Theory of Solids. McGraw-Hill, 1940.

Harrison, Walter A. Solid State Theory. Dover paperback 1979.

Ashcroft, Neil, and N. David Mermin. Saunders, 1976.

Callaway, Joseph. Quantum Theory Of The Solid State
(Student Edition) Academic Press, 1974.

Ziman, J. M. Electrons in Metals, A Short Guide To The
Fermi Surface. Taylor & Francis Ltd. 1963, 1964. (A classic
paper. This delightfully clear 80 page reprint alone is worth
the package price!)

Kittel, Charles. Introduction To Solid State Physics. 5th
edition. Wiley, 1976.

Kittel, Charles. Introduction To Solid State Physics. 2nd
edition, Wiley, 1956. (Interesting to compare with above.)

This package goes out the door at $30, which includes shipping.
Seven books, 10 inches of solid physics, cheap.

---------------------------------------------------------

Lot No. 4. The Journal of Irreproducible Results.

From Dec 1963 (in Vol. 12) through volume 30 (1985). Science you wouldn't
dare teach in the classroom. Science humor, satire and parody. I wouldn't
feel right *giving* this away, so I ask $30, including shipping.

---------------------------------------------------------

Lot No. 5. For those who like to go around in circles.

Greenhill, Sir Alfred George. Gyroscopic Theory. Chelsea Publishing
Company 1966 reprint of the first (1914) edition. [This book will surely
impress any visitor who finds it on your library shelf. I estimate it has
4000 equations, more than 10 on each page. A separate fold-out section of
272 figures allows you to see any figure while reading any page. Believe
me, that's necessary. You have to see this book to believe it. Imagine
your students' reactions if they find you in your office casually perusing
this incredible volume. And they thought quantum mechanics was too
mathematical! Originally published by the Advisory Committee For
Aeronautics.]

Crabtree, Harold. An Elementary Treatment Of The Theory Of Spinning Tops
And Gyroscopic Motion. Chelsea Publishing Company 1967 reprint of the 1914
second edition. Includes mathematical treatment of toy tops, navigational
and stabilizing gyroscopes, tippy-tops, Celts (rattlebacks) and a lot of
other things that spin and precess. Enough to make you dizzy with
delight.]

Both the above books are hardbound in heavy cloth.

Routh, Edward John. The Advanced Part Of A Treatise On The Dynamics Of A
System Of Rigid Bodies. Macmillan, 1884. [This is part II of a two-volume
set. Sorry, I don't have part I. This is the original; not a reprint. It
may help you understand the books above. Then, again, it may not. Show it
to students who think physics was "easier" in the old days.]

A steal. All three hard-to-find books for $30, postage included.
