This is a response to Brian's comment that anything the
can be miswired will be miswired! When I first began
teaching we were in a building with concrete floors and
lots of water pipes and sinks about. The circuits in
several of the labs had a ground fault, and also a laser we
used was incorrectly wired. The results was that the case
of the laser and the optical bench on which it was mounted
ran at 120V. After several nasty shocks we got the ground
fault fixed and the laser fixed, but it took a while.
Fortunately, we didn't have anybody around with a
pacemaker. WBN
