Re: GFI (again)

From a recent message:
On the 'up- side' a single GFI outlet will protect every other
outlet on THAT branch circuit.
[....................]
I find that idea hard to believe. Could someone please either refute
it or explain it for me?

I replaced a GFI receptacle recently. The instructions were quite
detailed. The GFI outlet has its own "circuit breaker." If you wire
the outlet properly, all outlets from that point on will trip the
GFI circuit breaker if there is a problem. For example, the
secondary outlet is connected to the GFI outlet (a special set of
connection points is provided), and the GFI outlet is in turn
connected to the main power source. You can also wire it so that the
outlet is isolated from other outlets (direct connection to power
source). You have a choice in terms of how you wire it.
