Tim,
That is true but only for the computer. If you use AOL or any
of the free e-mail services, then it is the time from where the server
is. For people with *.edu endings, the time is close except if they are
on travel in Europe or Asia.

Just looking at a few old messages, it looks like the time given is the
local time, and the "-0600" is hours from GMT: people on the east coast
are all "-0500", and on the west coast "-800". If true, this one from
Kansas should be about 10:28 am, and "-0600".
