I tried this and it seems to work. However, it's very hard to see the
"air thread" marks in the humidifier fog. Dry ice creates a dense fog
layer only a couple mm thick, and the layer seems to invade the boundary
layer of the water surface. It's almost like white paint. The fog from
the humidifier tends to be very sparse, several cm thick, and there is a
fog-free layer adjacent to the water. Tiny motions of air in the room
will disrupt the humidifier fog, while dry ice fog "clings" to the water
surface.

I still haven't gotten around to trying to send data along a "thread" by
periodically interrupting the connection between the sharp point and
ground. A miniature model of the cirrus-cloud Pepsi ad?
