Jim,

Carbon monoxide is a product of incomplete combustion...depends on
the kind of fuel and the conditions of burning. We do get CO when coal
burns, but usually less both because of the fuel composition and the fact
that it is easier to control the conditions of combustion in a stationary
coal-fired plant...
