I use the internet for extra credit assignments...I really don't like giving
out extra credit but this is IMHO meaningful extra credit (ie. it's not just
some lame stuff students can do to get lots of points).
There are tons of colleges that put homework and test problems on the
internet.
Most all of the physics courses at University of Illinois at
Urbana/Champaign (UIUC) have students do their homework via the net with the
CyberProf software. I found out about this from a former student who keeps
in close contact with me.
I just cruise the intro phy courses looking for problems involving the
topics we're covering in class and tell the students which ones are due and
when.
I do this for both my accelerated and AP-B physics classes.
I pick both easy and difficult level problems...more points being given for
the higher level probs.
The CyberProf software is interactive so the students can get hint/help info
and it will also tell them when they have the correct solution. The nifty
thing about the software is that the answer is not the same each time (for
some of the courses anyway). So students can't just get the answers from
someone else because the initial conditions of the problems change :-)
My students tell me they like doing these problems because they know they
are doing the same problems a college student is working on. My AP students
always have huge smiles when they figure out the hardest problems in the
Physics for Scientists/Engineers course.
There are many other colleges using similar software so you'll just have to
take some time and look.

You might also want to look at the link for the AP WEB PROJECT my students
have done. I teach them basic HTML then they create their own problems and
make webpages for them. They love doing this...great project to do after
they take the exam.
