Re: Physics and Karate

Derek,

Priscilla Laws at Dickinson does an impulse/momentum karete lab, and some
footage from their students' videos are distributed with the VideoPoint SW.

Laws' WORKSHOP PHYSICS curriculum has a section on Karate (Unit 10 Work &
Energy, section 10) that leads through a series of calculations culminating in
a board breaking frenzy, er, activity.

Karate day is one of the highs of the WP course. You can get the WP
curriculum from you Wiley rep.

Dan M

PS -- Laws refers to an article in her unit 10.10: Feld, M.S., McNair, R.E.
and Wilk,S.R. (1979). The physics of karate, SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, Apr 79
p150-158.

We are running an evening session on impulse and momentum with a Karate
demonstration.
I figured some good resources relating physics and karate would be easy
to find, but not so. I've done some web searches, but nothing good
enough yet.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have the articles from the AIP book "The Physics of Sport"
