Fw: Query on physics of water skiing

Subject: Query on physics of water skiing
Hi guys.

What are the mechanics that allow a water skier to skim along the surface
of the water?
How come below a certain speed there is no skiing and above that speed
skiing occurs?
What forces are at play? Obviously gravitational pull is greater than
the support offered by the water's surface at "X" speed, but a force
(unknown to me) overcomes gravitational pull at "X + 1"

Thanks

Bob
