Staff Position

Instructional Laboratories
Department of Physics
University of Chicago


The University of Chicago Department of Physics is seeking a
full-time staff member to work in support of instructional physics
laboratories and lecture demonstrations. The laboratories are designed for
all academic levels from undergraduate non-science majors to graduate
students in physics. The applicant will work closely with three other staff
members to set up, maintain and develop instructional laboratory
experiments. The applicant will instruct graduate teaching assistants and
students in the proper use of apparatus, physics concepts and
interpretation of data.
A masters degree in physics is preferred. Previous experience
with instructional physics laboratories and lecture demonstrations is
desirable. The applicant must have practical problem-solving skills, with
hands-on experience in electronics and some machining. The applicant
should have good communication skills, and be able to work well with
faculty, staff and students. Salary range: $32,000 to $40,000. The
position becomes available June 15, 1998. The deadline for application is
