Yes, we have seen that the chemical differences between hydrogen and
helium are due to one vs. two electrons. This gives the (surprisingly
"simple") mechanism for their differences, but doesn't diminish those
differences - rather it makes them all the more amazing.
Similarly, the differences between the chimp and a man would not be
diminished if such a simple mechanism/structure were discovered behind
it. That would be more "amazing" than if the difference were due to some
very profoundly different human mechanism/structure.
