I inhabited a poetry list for several years.
Poetry has the peculiar property that its originators often value it 
extremely high, so they are concerned that it might be stolen or otherwise
misappropriated.
 It was for this reason that your "publishers getting the money" raised
a smile. The plain fact is that it takes a vanity press to publish some 
of this material. 
(And this is not a sneer - I am talking of worthy material...)

 I can suspect that the cachet of a respectable academic source like 
Vassar might make a substantial difference, and the topic offers unusual
interest for people who are interested ( if you will forgive the
 r^2 = x^2 + y^2 of this phrase)
 I can wish you luck - and throw my hat in for one copy sine die.
